Student Spotlight: Kyera Burks

Jun 24, 2016

Kyera Burks’ father, Christopher Dante Burks, sadly passed away on August 2, 2012 in Cheongju, Korea from an accident. He was a Sergeant First Class in the Army and was 40-years-old when he passed.

Kyera graduated high school in 2014 and is attending Columbus State University, where she currently studies psychology.  She plans to study clinical psychology and become a victim’s advocate for children.

Kyera serves as the President of Nkmand Inc, a community outreach organization started by the Burks children, that partners with under-resourced schools and aids the children of these communities through the  purchasing of books, mentorships, and offering college scholarships.

Dear Dad,

I just want to say that I really miss you. I wish that I could call you and just tell you how much I love you. I want you to know how grateful I am for all the knowledge, discipline, and love that you have instilled in me; because of this I am the woman I am today. I don’t want to get too deep into this letter because I will cry all night; this is still surreal to me even though you’ve been gone for almost four years. I love you Daddy and I miss you so much. Rest in Paradise.

Your oldest,

With Father’s Day recently being celebrated, Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation is reminded of the inner strength of surviving children. This is an important time for our entire nation to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice that so many soldiers and their families have made.
